Cape Town, Baby. Pt 2

avatars-000015613877-bb7tdr-cropI’m about half way though my time here and I’ve got Tonsillitis. Gutted. I went to the doctors yesterday, who were amazing. They’ve given me antibiotics and other bits and pieces, so fingers crossed I’ll start to feel better very soon, but I’m signed off work for the whole week.
Bariatric surgery isn’t so common in South Africa, so I think I was a bit of a novelty. Their first idea was that I was ill because of my op, but between me saying categorically that it wasn’t, and the fact that every test result they did came back perfect- not good- but perfect, convinced them. They said I was clearly a very healthy person and it could only be an infection.
On the plus side, the antibiotics have given me a really chronic dose of the shits- really bad, so as of today I’ve hit the 16 stone mark. That’s 7.5 stone down: more than they’d estimated I’d lose in 18 months.
So, I’m held up in my room for the rest of the week. Sleeping and watching telly is the best I can do. I went down for breakfast and sat for a while so my lovely maid could sort my room out.
Unfortunately, they seem to be redecorating the room next door, so all I can hear is a wallpaper scraper. What a fucker. A bouquet of flowers came for me yesterday from all the staff to wish me ‘get well soon’ how nice.

So, in other Cape Town news, I really like the place. Night life is great but it takes me ages to recover, (being an old duffer now) even though I don’t drink alcohol. We went to a place called Bang Bar last week and had a ball. Started off being pulled by the police and ended up with a police escort to the bar! The music here is amazing and absolutely everyone can dance. Even the white people!
This is an easy place to get around and I feel quite at home here. It’s easy to forget that the streets I walk around in the day, aren’t a good idea at night. Because the people here are so very friendly, it’s hard to imagine that some people here aren’t. Same as anywhere else though.

There’s quite a few places I still want to go to, so I need to get my arse together (literally) and get better so I can get on.
